Talk Together is a 6-week, in-person class for parents and caregivers of children ages 20 months to 36 months who have interest in learning expressive language strategies. The class was designed for children who seem to understand what people say, but are not yet talking or are just starting to use words. Each week, activities in the class are designed to encourage a specific communication strategy or strategies. Parents/caregivers will have opportunities to practice strategies with their child and will be given feedback and support from a speech-language pathologist. Children will have fun learning through music, toys, and games, and parents/caregivers will leave the class with practical ideas for implementing strategies at home. Families will also have full access to Talk Together Online, where they can watch video examples of the strategies in action, get more ideas for implementing the strategies at home, and create a weekly plan tailored to their child.

Talk Together meets for 45 minutes once per week at Danspace in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland. Enrollment now includes over 6 hours of on-demand video content (Talk Together Online), which families will have access to when they join the class. Cost for the 6 in-person Talk Together classes + Talk Together Online video access is $270 ($45/class). Want to take the course, but can’t make it on Friday mornings? Please feel free to enroll in Talk Together Online or reach out to us with where and when you are available for class.

Registration for our Spring 2024 session is now open!

Classes run for six consecutive Fridays between 5/3/24 and 6/7/24, from 10:00 to 10:45am at Danspace (473 Hudson St., Oakland).

Please feel free to reach out if you have questions or need additional information. We hope to see you there!

Talk Together Online is for families with toddlers 12-36 months of age who want to learn specific strategies to support their child using words, in the comfort of their own home. This 8-week course is inspired by our in-person classes, but is designed for parents to watch on their own to gain new ideas for how to use communication strategies with their children.

Each week includes:

  • A series of short videos discussing a research based communication topic that can incorporated into everyday activities.

  • Video demonstration of the strategy in at least three toddler friendly activities.

  • Practical troubleshooting tips based on our experience working with toddlers and their families for speech and language therapy.

  • Downloadable handouts to highlight key points to remember.

  • Downloadable guides for creating an individualized weekly homeplan to use with your child right away.

As pediatric speech and language pathologists, we've seen the magic a good book can bring to an interaction. With our IW Speech Book Series we've curated lists of our favorite books to use in speech and language therapy based on the skills you are hoping to share with your child. For each book on the list, we demonstrate how we like to read the book in order to offer the most opportunities for language development.

The IW Speech Book Series is available now for registration with an email address through teachable.com: https://iwspeech.teachable.com/p/getting-interested-in-books

Registration for a course within the IW Speech Book Series is $12.

We offer private Hanen classes, including It Takes Two to Talk and More Than Words, on an on-demand basis. Both classes are designed for families with young children (birth to 5 years of age) demonstrating language delays. Strategies from It Takes Two to Talk work best for children who have difficulties primarily with expressive language, and the More Than Words curriculum caters to children on the autism spectrum. We appreciate the practical strategies that these Hanen classes offer to families, and we would love to share them with you.

Please contact us for more information about our private, on-demand Hanen classes.
